The thyroid gland is a small but vital endocrine gland located on either side of the trachea, just above the collarbone. It produces hormones that help regulate metabolism, energy levels, and many essential body functions. Common Thyroid Disorders Hyperthyroidism Hyperthyroidism occurs when the thyroid produces too much thyroid hormone. This overproduction speeds up body processes and can cause: Rapid or irregular heartbeat Anxiety, irritability, or nervousness Persistent fatigue Heat intolerance and excessive sweating Hand tremors Unexplained weight loss Frequent bowel movements If left untreated, hyperthyroidism may increase the risk of heart conditions and other serious complications.
